Follow the route, not a product label

Turns, winding steps, intermediate landings and more than one flight may lead to a custom-rail discussion. A measured survey should identify the route and desired stops before a final model recommendation.

Compare one continuous ride with separate lifts

Two straight lifts can look attractive in a headline equipment comparison. But changing chairs on a landing adds a transfer, and the usable space there may be limited. Ask the assessor to explain how each proposed route works for the intended user, not just how it fits the stairs.

Review the rail drawing before authorizing production

Look for the starting point, corners, intermediate stops and parking positions. Ask how the arrangement affects doors and other stair users. Keep the agreed plan with the contract so a design change is visible.

Know the custom-order terms

  • What must be approved before the rail is manufactured?
  • Which deposit or cancellation terms apply to measured equipment?
  • What happens if a site condition changes after the survey?
  • Who owns servicing and replacement-part support?
  • What removal or relocation limitations should you expect?

Do not assume a used curved rail will fit

A chair and a rail are not interchangeable concepts. Ask the seller to identify exactly what is reconditioned and what is newly made for your staircase. No reuse or buy-back value is guaranteed here.

Buffalo: plan the comparison

Separate the interior route from any exterior entrance. Ask the provider to confirm the exact property, equipment environment and maintenance responsibilities. A Buffalo-area label is not proof of installation or future service availability.
