When to explore a straight rail
A single continuous flight without a turn is the starting point for discussing a straight stair lift. A provider must still measure the stairs and assess the intended user. Width alone is not a complete suitability test.
Choose the endpoints before the extras
Ask where the rail ends, where the chair parks, and how the person will get on and off. A nearby door or narrow hallway may change the proposed configuration. Request a drawing that shows the rail in use and parked.
New versus reconditioned straight lifts
A reconditioned unit may be an option if a seller offers one compatible with the measured route. Ask for the exact model, service history if available, battery condition, safety checks, parts support, and the written warranty. Do not assume a second-hand rail can simply move from another house.
